Alessio Laudato – 16th October 2011

October 16 – why does this date ring a bell?

Sitting in my Shoreditch pad, sipping coffee and trying to find some inspiration for my blog post, I am suddenly struck by a mental image of myself  carrying two massive suitcases stuffed with my belongings. There I was, travelling on a Piccadilly line train from Heathrow Airport to Central London, ready to start a new life.

365 days, 2 flats, 7 flatmates and one Language Course later, I have become a much different person. First of all, I can now speak and understand English fairly well – so far, maybe, the biggest accomplishment of all. Secondly, in the past 12 months I have encountered and overcome several difficulties that have helped me shape my personality, and that is why I now look at things from a different, much broader perspective. Last, but surely not least, I have been exploring every single inch of London and have fallen in love with it over and over again. This is a city where I feel perfectly at ease and which inspires and surprises me every day: it is a place I can call “home”, because home is wherever I find happiness.

My experience at SCA is only the last piece I have added to the puzzle of my London life. The School has gifted me with new valuable friends and colleagues, and has presented me with new interesting challenges. Every day, I wake up and travel to the opposite end of town to reach a place where I can express myself fully.

So, after today, I am already looking forward to celebrating my second anniversary in London with you all next year! I just wonder what’s gonna happen in the next 365 days…
