“I said to myself, I have things in my head that are not like what anyone has taught me, shapes and ideas so near to me, so natural to my way of being and thinking it hasn’t occurred to me to put them down. I decided to start anew, to strip away what I had been taught. Georgia O’Keeffe

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.” ~Howard Aiken

I often think about these two quotes, and how true they are for me, during my time in education I have learnt a lot about myself and how to develop my ideas, however the fact of the matter is this isn’t enough. The cookie cutter approach that University’s take, provides an education, which produces a vast number of talented individuals graduating with similar ways of working.

In an industry where standing out in a crowd is vital this approach cannot be good, and so unfortunately, often these degrees do not translate into jobs. In this day and age you really have to stand out in the crowd and this is achieved not by having good ideas but by having great ideas. Unexpected ideas, ideas which make you REALLY think and take notice.

This is what we are taught at The School of Communication Arts 2.0 and this is the reason why our graduating January intake have managed to secure placements in agencies across the globe. One team even being offered a job before other agencies could offer them placements!

So if you’re thinking about how you can stand out in this over crowded market, think about applying to the school, if it’s right for you they’ll really push you to be better, and then push you to be great.
