Don’t worry be happy.
Stress. Such a trendy word. Especially in big cities. Especially in creative professions like advertising.
Especially in this interesting and intense period of my life here in London.
How many times do you hear that word during the week?
Stress. Some of it is useful, but If we get too much of it we will suffer a creative block. How do you feel when that happens? My mind usually goes blank. I can’t focus. I feel like a headless chicken.
But why does this happen? Apparently when I’m stressed, my body thinks that I’m in danger (ha! as If loosing my job or an account was not dangerous!) and it starts segregating all sort of hormones, like adrenaline. My heart bitting gets faster, my breathing too.
This leads to the also well known negative thinking, followed by the famous creative block that I have just mentioned above. “I won’t make it” or “This is not good enough” becomes then your little mantra, as you keep repeating it to yourself till the day comes to its end….don’t you?
Uhm, seems that I’am trapped in a space/time loop, like Bill Murray in “The groundhog day” but without the time factor.
AAAAHHHH. There must be a solution.
What should I do? Well, some wise people told me: “You need to find a balance”. I know!!! But how?.
Well,it took me a while (and the technics are not perfect yet) to (try to) discover and apply this methods against the stress.
When I was like 12 my dad tried to introduced me to the concept of meditation. My teenage stupidity could not understand it. Later, I discovered yoga.
And finally, can’t remember when exactly, the positive thinking came to my life. Or kind of. Still trying to embrace it. And still, I find amazing the way it works, the theory.
Have you heard about Quantum Physics before? Im sure you did! If not, check some Wikipedia, it’s worthy.
So, at a glance, and among some other complicated and incredible things, Quantum Physics says that positive energy attracts more positive energy. So the more positive you think the better it gets…Is that true? I can’t assure it 100%. Why? Because even If I love complaining I’am so damned lucky.
But the fact of swapping the “I wont make it” for a “I will make it, and I got what it takes!” makes you feel really good. And helps to get rid of the stress.
Actually, writing about positive thinking made me feel better.
You should try it.
I should try it more often.
PS: Apologies for the limited language skills and grammar mistakes, I’am a South European barbarian.
