Side effects of a social profile
For today’s fittingly named ‘SCAB’ post
I was going to pick into one of the most
Current of issues about the misuse
of social media with regards to this truce
between public and privacy
Owned content and piracy
And the open window into people whose lives you see.
“Thanks for inviting me to all that you’ve shared
All of your details, not much has been spared
What you are doing and when, the places you go
The people you’ve met, everyone that you know”
I was going to dig deeper, that’s not even it
The photos you took, the words that you writ
When upload is clicked you feign ownership
Case study: Chewywong, for those of you that know
About him and his flickr, look it up if you don’t
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sesh00/515961023/
His mate got mugged off, with small print that was dealt her
His photo got copied = her face on bus shelter
Derogatory caption, and, in addition,
Virgin didn’t even ask his permission!
Except here’s the thing, they didn’t actually need to
It’s the terms of the service people should take heed to
It’s the same with your wall and social feed that you read through.
More people than you think have access to that content
The side effects of a ‘social profile’ and what it really meant?
But anyway it was this that I had planned to explore
I had looked into details, was going to open more
Of my mind and what it keeps and I almost posted it
But instead, I shied and deleted most of it
Decided to sweep this deep stuff under the carpet
and instead went for something a bit more light-hearted.
Blog rapping: Is there a gap in the market?
