Reflecting on the past two weeks at the School of Communication Arts, I’ve found one of the most important things we’ve been asked is to be more open, to observe and consider the things around us, in detail and as a whole, from the relationships we have, to the very space we coexist in.

Marc has suggested we ‘be like a sponge’, to absorb it all so we can think laterally, and make connections to unconnected things.

Personally I’ve found myself saying yes more and trying things which I might normally dismiss. It’s interesting just what’s out there, in gallery’s, books, films, things we either reject or worse still not even think of, but these are the places which feed our soul and inform our creativity and unless we are open to them, we’ll soon find our ideas being repetitive or stale.

Don’t get me wrong, a lot of it is just as bad as I thought it’d be, some far worse than ever imagined, but there have been a few unexpected surprises, it’s all too easy to say no sometimes, but saying yes more has provided me with new experiences and I hope greater understanding.

So, two weeks in, I’m here, the headphones are out, the pretentious sunglasses haven’t come on yet and I’m giving new things a go, so if you’ve any suggestions, I’m all ears.
