People are odd.
What do you do? I’ve been asked this question countless times. My usual answer would be: – I have a “degree” in animation…and. At this point in the answer I pause and examine the reactions, by and large I always get very impressed look as if been able to ‘animate’ is a very respected and prestigious talent.
Then I’d conclude with: – but I’m currently studying advertising!
I can almost immediately tell when it happens. In their minds I just went from cool and creative to dishonesty and hypocritical.
Experiencing something so good you have got to tell all your friends about it. That’s real advertising to me. I have no interest in selling cigarettes to toddlers.
Children are hilarious.
Oliver Tiersch explains it in his blog post ‘Passion’ where he compares the ability to create versus the capacity and hunger to consume.
Not long ago I tried to explain advertising to my 4 and 3-year-old nieces.
The older one interrupted me in midsentence and asked if I wanted to hear a joke: – What do you call a bee that makes milk?
Then glanced across the room to her little sister before they both simultaneously chanted: – A boobee!
Girls are beautiful.
My latest weekend was a special one. In fact, I might have met the ‘love of my life’ or, to quote my brother, “ the woman who I want my children to look like”.
She is amazing! She wants to film a documentary on skating, but has no idea of how to skate… she’s got weird secrets and she lies about them without a bit of hesitation, which I think is scary and absolutely charming.
Family hurts.
Family changes, all the times, I was recently reminded that. It taught me to be more reverential about pretty much everything I love. I think it’s important to have people in your life that you value more than yourself.
I am unfortunately lucky.
I guess the bottom line of this post is to pint out the similarities between life and the Ad industry. Really, the Children are all the creative minds. The Girls are the clients who we constantly have to remind of our good heart and the Family is our network that we have no control upon but it supports us and knows what we are better than ourselves.
