Unit Purpose and Aims

The purpose of this unit is to help learners;

This unit will enable the student to understand what prototyping is and what the  different types are. They will be asked to examine real world prototypes and also to build a prototype of some kind themselves.

Learning Outcomes

Learners will;

1 Understand the basic prototype categories

Learners can;

1.1 Explain what a proof-of-principle prototype is.

1.2 Explain what a visual prototype is.

1.3 Explain what a functional prototype is.

1.4  Describe the  key differences between a prototype and a production design  or beta version.

1.5 Create a prototype of an idea.

2. Understand the advantages and disadvantages of prototypes

2.1 Describe the key advantages of prototyping

2.2 Describe the key disadvantages of prototyping
