Unit Purpose and Aims

The purpose of this unit is;

In this unit learners will learn about intellectual property for creative businesses and how to protect it through copyright and patenting.

Learning Outcomes

Learners will;

1. Understand Intellectual property for creative businesses

Learners can;

1.1. Describe what a patent covers.

1.2 Describe what a trademark is and what it covers.

1.3 Describe what copyright is.

2. Understand new forms of IP

2.1 Critically compare and contrast creative commons and patents

2.2 Describe the  impacts of open source on IP.

3.  Understand how to protect ideas

3.1 Explain how a business can find and search against existing patent, trademarks and copyrights for a given product.

3.2 Describe the  process of filing a patent
