Unit Purpose and Aims
The purpose of this unit is to;
The aim of this unit is to equip the student with a range of approaches to evaluation of ideas for their creative development potential. Many ideas are outputted but few are worth pursuing. This unit equips the student with a process for effective evaluation.
Learning Outcomes
Learners will;
1. Be able to critically evaluate ideas
Learners can;
1.1. Create criteria for evaluation
1.2. Apply criteria to evaluating a set of ideas.
2. Be able to use a number of techniques for managing evaluation in groups
2.1 Use the six hats method of feedback in group situations
2.2 Use a matrix method of evaluating an idea
2.3 Collate, distribute and solicit feedback on an idea within their peer group.

The audience’s shoes
Think like an actor. If you were that person, what would you think; what would you do? Evaluate from every point of view that will affect the success of the idea. If the audience is so far from your own experience that it’s a struggle, create a character on a mood board: who they are, what they read, what they watch. That can be a useful tool later for stopping clients ‘choosing wallpaper’ and getting them thinking about the audience too.

Acquire mentor’s help
SCA 2.0 has an amazing network of mentors. Asking them for their viewpoint on an idea not only gives you feedback on how industry professionals valuate your idea, but also provides you with the chance of making your idea become reality. If a mentor works on a brand you might be lucky and your idea is considered for a client pitch. That may be a rare occasion, however, it is not completely impossible. Nonetheless showing mentors your work always helps you to understand the evaluation process and helps you to learn to distinguish working ideas from non working ideas.
