Unit Purpose and Aims
The purpose of this unit is to;
The aim of this unit is to give the student a working understanding of the key software tools available on and offline for creatives in advertising. The learner will show that they can use the key pieces of software and that they can search for help using online sources.
Learning Outcomes
Learners will;
1. Understand what the key software packages are for creatives in advertising
Learners can;
1.1 Describe the key image making and manipulation software packages for advertising creatives
1.2 Identify the key moving image and animation software packages for advertising creatives
1.3 Identify the key software packages for preparation of content and print for advertising creatives
2. Know how to use online tools for creatives
2.1 Find, explore and use key online tools for creatives
2.3 Demonstrate that they can search for help with creative software using online forums and search engines.
3. Know how to use the tools in the production of campaign collateral
3.1 Interpret a brief to produce 2D advertisements for a given product or brand using a range of software tools.
3.2 Show clearly through produced work that appropriate tools are being used for the correct purpose.

A great way to develop your Photoshop skills is through PS tutorials. Here is an example of a tutorial host website. Tutorials vary in difficulty, but once one masters these key skills PS is a valuable tool.

Adobe offers on its webpage some really good beginner tutorials on how to use their different software and make first steps.
It is all explained in a very simple manner and easily understandable.

Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro is Apple’s movie editing software, but also really good to edit sound, and sound effects. Many experts argue that Adobe’s After Effects is still the best AFX software on the market, however Final Cut offers plenty of after effect tools too.
It is very intuitive to use, however, if questions arise, help can be found in hundreds of online forums circulating, CreativeCow is quite good as it is headed by many well respected experts.
