50 QUICK FIRE LESSONS FROM MY FIRST MONTH AT SCA

  1. Don’t write your scabs half hour before they are due 
  2. Manage your time effectively 
  3. Don’t drink on weekdays 
  4. Always have a sharpie on hand 
  5. Don’t get protective over your seat 
  6. Don’t forget to put your mug away 
  7. Practice breakdancing 
  8. Be kind to everyone, you will have to work with all of the bastards 
  9. An idea that sounds stupid at first might inspire something special 
  10. The whole world will be taken over by robots by 2050 
  11. Learn Illustrator 
  12. Always push ideas further 
  13. Don’t rely on South West Trains 
  14. Don’t rely on Southeastern Trains 
  15. Copy up Notes of The Year once a week 
  16. Aim to be asleep by 11 o’clock 
  17. Stop putting tasks off when you have spare time 
  18. Don’t be afraid to show work to mentors  
  19. Remember to use key lines when Alex Taylor is close by 
  20. Find work outside of advertising that inspires you 
  21. Find time to unwind 
  22. Cut the advertising talk outside of SCA 
  23. Go with your gut 
  24. Every new brief is a chance to make an impression 
  25. Your reputation is your most valuable currency 
  26. Don’t spend £15 a week on coffee 
  27. Always bring a jumper ‘cause that pit is cold! 
  28. Answer every brief even if it’s not mandatory 
  29. Don’t compete with others, compete with yourself 
  30. Do things that scare you! 
  31. Find time to exercise more 
  32. Stop eating burgers 
  33. Remember to bring in meals from home every day 
  34. Research every mentor thoroughly 
  35. Ask more questions 
  36. Sit with Ian more 
  37. Read on the commute home 
  38. Practice using different creative techniques every day 
  39. Carry journal at all times 
  40. Showing up is half the battle 
  41. Hard work = prizes

  43. Find time for friends outside of SCA
