Motivated by this morning’s TED talk by Meg Jay, I thought I’d write a quick SCAB on my all time favourite TED talk.
It’s called ‘Do schools kill creativity?’.
It’s by Sir Ken Robinson.
And it’s amazing.
It is the most watched video on TED with 41 million views and if you aren’t one of those 41 million, shame on you.

Ken is one of the passionate people I’ve ever heard talk about education and encouraging creativity amongst students.
Watching him convinced me that we need a fundamental change in our education system. That the one-size-fits-all model doesn’t work for many if not most students, it didn’t for me.
We need more creative time in school, combining different subjects, giving more choice learning, considering the different learning speeds and most importantly, making classrooms as interactive and engaging as possible.
This takes me to the first point of this SCAB in reiterating how lucky we are to be at SCA.
All of the above are already in action at our school and we have the freedom and encouragement all schools need when it comes to creativity.
I really hope we continue to embrace this and don’t take it for granted this year.
Ken talks about how children, regardless of if they know the answer or not, will take a chance, even if they don’t know they’ll have a go and they’re not frightened of being wrong.
I think this is key in the industry we’re in because if you’re not prepared to be wrong you’ll never come up with anything original.
Picasso is always quoted in the talk saying ‘All children are born artists, the problem is to remain artists when we grow up’
I think this is very true in adults and going with the theme of this week, we need to stay in a playful child state!
