The Hardest Job In The World…

…is following a SCAB like Robyn’s. And boy what a SCAB it was. Like a lot of people, I had goosebumps when I read it. Amazing stuff, Rob. You really inspired us all, so this SCAB’s for you.

10 things we should learn from Robyn

  • Share your passion. If you have an opinion about something, don’t keep it to yourself. Write it, be it, do it. Speaking of doing…
  • Be a doer. Don’t just come up with ideas, go out and make them happen, and then see what happens.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA, PEOPLE. Make yourself famous! Don’t wait for people to find you. Go out there and make a noise. Tell people about what you’re doing.
  • Know your shit. Be on top of who’s who and what’s what in advertising. Know what’s happening in and around the industry.
  • Network. Go to all the events, talk to all the people. Talk to them on twitter. Make them notice you.
  • If you don’t ask, you don’t get. Don’t be afraid to ask for things, most people in the industry are so nice and always willing to lend a hand. And if they say no…
  • Don’t take no for an answer. Prove them wrong. It’s just their opinion anyway.
  • Energy. Bring 110% to every brief, go the extra mile, because…
  • Opportunity is Now Here. Even a SCAB is a brief with a great opportunity. Look at the places it can take you, like it’s taking Robyn.
  • Put you in your work. Bring your personality to the table, that’s what everyone wants to see. And that’s what will make your work stand out.

When you put all those things together, you basically have all the ingredients for acing SCA. All the things that Marc has been telling us since day one. For people planning to join SCA, take note of these things!

There are obviously thousands of other things I have learnt from my friends at SCA. It’s one of the best things about being at SCA. Watching each other succeed. Feeling immensely jealous for a minute then overbearingly proud of what each of us achieve. Feeling honored to be sat next to some of the fiercest, hungriest and most creative minds that are about to enter the industry. Having the opportunity to learn from them, train with them and grow with them.

So to all of my fellow penguins, thank you for teaching me all that you have so far. And to Marc, thank you as always, for creating this weird and wonderful place which we’re all so lucky to attend.
