The epic highs and lows of ad-school fishkeeping

I read someone else’s scab about why you should write scabs about things you find interesting, so here’s something completely unrelated to SCA. What a treat.

First of all, I think everyone needs a fish tank in their life. It’s probably one of the most relaxing hobbies out there. A little sprinkle of food here and there. Take some water out. Put some water in. Doesn’t get much easier than that. There is also such a thing as ‘aquarium therapy’ used to reduce stress and anxiety. Something about the movement of the water and the constant swimming of the fish stimulating dopamine in the brain.

A study by Plymouth University found that watching a fish tank reduced a visitor’s heart rate by 7% and blood pressure by 4%, how concrete is that? Back in the day (265AD) the Chinese would sit and watch carp to relax and so the koi pond was born. This then turned into the fishbowl we know today. A scab with history and stats, this must be serious.

It’s a minimal investment so don’t go worrying about the cost. You can get a tank for cheap on eBay and fish don’t tend to be that bad depending on what you get, then once you do have them and you treat them well they lay loads of eggs in one go. You’ll basically have an unlimited supply.

Unfortunately, there’s no sun without rain so here are ‘the lows’ so far:

But don’t worry about any of that. So overall I’d rate this hobby a 9/10. One you should definitely start. Maybe we can get a tank for the school, that would be nice. Buy yourself a fish tank. Buy a friend a fish tank. We should all buy a fish tank.
