We were fortunate to have a visit from Trevor Robinson, creative director and founder of Quiet Storm the London-based advertising agency and production company. 

During our year at SCA, we meet incredibly exciting people who have achieved what we dream of – living off their creativity and making the world a bit better through it. Not only does Trevor have a fantastic career behind him, which many can only dream of, but he has an energy that makes us want to listen and learn from him. He was so calm, so grounded, and in an industry like the one we’re entering, it’s a rare sight. He told us about his journey into the advertising world. How he, like many, stumbled into it, and how he continued to throw out idea after idea.He told us how they came up with the Tango advertisement that took the world by storm in the 90s. It’s iconic. And so simple! Even I, who never grew up with British TV, have seen it. So simple, so funny, so successful. He talked about how spotting potential in others is incredibly important because we all deserve a chance to shine. We don’t all come from the same background, but we can help each other on the road to success.

Yet much of what they do is so much more than advertising. In Quiet Storm, they have created things with a desire to actually make the world a better place. And they succeeded. He is truly a meeting I will remember for a long time. It was personally perhaps one of the most inspiring conversations we’ve had so far this year.

It’s about being creative, yes, but also about being playful. Playful child is one of the most important things we as creatives can use to keep ourselves up. The best ideas come to us when we least expect it. On the way to work, school, in the shower, or in the middle of the night. We must always be ready to receive these ideas. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a choice. For some, it’s heaven, for others, a worse version of hell. I personally love it, if you didn’t catch that. 

From this meeting, I take away how a simple and straightforward idea can take the world by storm. How important it is to be humble in a world full of yes – creative egocentric people hehe and how important it is that we use the platforms we are allowed to borrow for something important. We will make the world a little better than it was when we arrived.
