SCAB – By @JacobDeFig
SCAB – Jacob de Figueiredo
Useful tools for those looking to dip their toe into the creative advertising waters.
I’ve been reading most of the SCABs submitted by SCA students and the majority are insightful paragraphs of self-reflection. So, I thought it would be a good idea to write a post that provides information for people who may be following the SCA Facebook page or Marc on Twitter and are looking for some useful resources to get themselves started in the world of creative advertising.
I was lucky enough to spend 6 months within Grey London’s creative department during my apprenticeship, being mentored by 2 established creative directors, which I couldn’t have been more grateful for.
During this time, I collated what I call a ‘MEGA ADVERITSING LIST’, which basically contains loads of resources and a few simple briefs. Hopefully this should help anyone who’s considering following this career path, test the waters and see if they’re inspired and get a high off looking at amazing work.
The briefs section contains a number of household brands with a simple tagline, the objective of these is to let your mind run wild and see what you can come up with without the restrains of a normal brief. Any medium, any idea. The advice I was given whilst completing these briefs was, “try and create stuff thatwouldn’t be accepted by a creative director. Blow their head off. Make them remember the name.”
So without further ado, here’s my mega advertising list.

Things happen everyday and the main places to find out first are…
AWARDS
Awards ceremonies are usually the best places to watch all the greatest ad campaigns and creative work.
The two main awards shows are Cannes Lions & D&AD.
My personal thoughts on the best work of 2015 are…
TIMELESS/EPIC ADS
There are some ads that people will refer to or reference no matter how long ago they were.
Some are film, some are digital but they’ve all won more awards and recognition than any others and it’s always good to have this knowledge in your back pocket.
