One of Marc’s Christmas assignments was to watch a film you’d never consider watching. So as Christmas Day loomed, I settled down with my family to watch the Paddington film. For those of you who haven’t grown up with him, Paddington is a bear who loves marmalade.
In all fairness, it’s a good film. I even wrote a post about how it moved me, and how emotion is so important when telling a story. But in all honesty, it was a pretty unmemorable SCAB. So I swapped Paddington for Porn. There’s a whole host of categories that I’d never consider watching, or would want to write a blog post about. So for those reasons alone, I thought it would be suitable topic for this post.
I’ve got a couple of mates who are really into point-of-view (POV) porn. I’ve never really got it myself, so I thought this would be a suitable starting point. Now I’m a novice in this genre, so assumed there would be a few options to choose from. But how naive I was. POV has an insane amount of choice. I can safely say that every category, subcategory and sub-subcategory has a POV range.
From sampling a few examples, the appeal must be in the fact that the viewer can pretend they are the porn star. It makes sense I guess. You feel more like a participant than an onlooker. In the name of  ‘research’ I delved further, and found a whole host of production companies specialising in POV. The most interesting offered ‘360 degree immersive experiences’. In a nutshell, this means strapping 60 go pros to their porn star’s head and filming a scene in 60 angles. The result is an ‘interactive’ film whereby the viewer can pan round the set using their arrow keys. They can virtually become the porn star. Apparently, it’s a huge industry and most production companies are following suit.
Marc was right, trying something new does spark fresh ideas. Here are some of them:
  • Is there a relationship between first person shooters and POV porn?
  • What is the preferred angle for these 360 films?
  •  What does your pornography taste say about you?
  • Can I legitimately ask what preferred categories (if any) Coup like as a group SCAB?
  • Is a ‘Porn Passion Project’ – a possibility?
  • Will people purchase Oculus Rift technology just for this?
I’ll follow up this post with some well defined problems. But in the meantime, have a great New Year.
