Not Peeling so Good – A Timeline

September 21st – A Darling Clementine

At the start of the year, I was a sweet, round clementine, filled with optimism and life (see Fig. 1). A young ingenue, eager to learn, as yet unpeeled and unjaded. Still kinda small and nondescript, but dreaming of the large, juicy orange that I would become with the help of a year at the world’s finest ad school.

October 30th – An Energised Satsuma

Fast forward a few weeks and I’ve grown a bit. Puffed up by the nurturing SCA tree, I’ve become a satsuma (see Fig. 2 below). Juicy ideas are flowing – not always good ideas, but that’s all part of the process. I’m working hard but I’m having so much fun, and bouncing off everyone else as if we’re in a huge, fast-moving satsuma cart.

November 29th – A Saggy Satsuma

The creative juice has continued to flow – maybe a little too much. Now a bit bruised from the speed of the fruit cart. The ideas are getting weirder and weirder, and my youthful satsuma skin is starting to sag (see Fig. 3). One tiny snag and I’ll come apart at the seams, like a true easy peeler.

December 6th – Empty Husk

As you can tell from this mad rambling, I’ve got no ideas left. I’m a squeezed-out satsuma skin trying to pass a few white pith strings off as juicy work (see Fig 4.). Only time will tell if I can squeeze out enough pith to get me to Christmas.

Don’t get me wrong, I really love this place. All I need is that two week break – then I’ll be ready to start all over again, bursting with sweet, fresh n tangy creative juice for 2022.

The Future is Bright, the Future is Orange.
